Evolving

Evloving

Many times your activities start out one way and over time they morph into something else.

I have been involved with the fishing community for more than 20 years now and things change.

I started as a guy who borrowed his parents boat once in a while to go fishing.

From there, I bought my first bass boat and joined a local renegade club. I started going to seminars, reading, I joined every fishing organization and bought every publication I could get my hands on.

I than started fishing some tournaments and moved on to a Federation club. I became more of a tournament angler within the club and started competing in state Federation tournaments as well as almost any tournament I could find in my area.

At that point I got more involved with the Federation, I became the club Federation director. With this position, I had to travel to the monthly directors meeting, which is 1 1/2 hours away.

From that point I sought out and got low level sponsorship and even got set up on a few National company field staff positions. ( which are really no big deal)  I started working at sportsman shows, boats shows and seminars. I even began presenting seminars at some local outdoor shows.

Back then, the Federation was affiliated with B.A.S.S. and I attended a couple of the the BassMaster Classics along with several of their other Tournaments.. Then I worked at a couple of the BassMaster Classics. This is when the "big split" happened and we moved to FLW Outdoors.

I began working within the federation. I helped run the Massachusetts Bass Federation State Championships, I was the editor for the Massachusetts Bass Federation Tournament and Travel Guide and I became the Conservation Director for the Mass Bass Federation. I also worked at the Federation booth at our local outdoors shows.

While all this was going on I began to fish less and less every year.

I eventually became the President of the Massachusetts Bass Federation. With this position came more travel. I was sent to several TBF National Championship to several TBF Presidents meetings. At these meetings we would basically assist in running the National Championship and have meetings while the anglers were on the water.

I also was sent to many Youth National Championships as our Youth Director (which I was not but I could get the time off from work) where we essentially did the same work as at the National Championship.

All the while fishing less and less, and letting my sponsors lapse one by one.

I am still the President, I am still a member of the first Federated club I joined, I carry only 2 sponsors now, and I fish even less.

An off shoot of fishing has always been photographs. I always had a camera with me and was always taking pictures of the fish we caught, scenery or the tournament launch or weigh in.

My daughter started swimming competitively a few months ago and I feel myself ever so slowly pulling back from the fishing industry and becoming more involved in her organization.

I have also gotten more seriously involved in photography, which started from fishing. I now always have a camera on me, always look for something unique to shoot and always keep my eyes open.

I really enjoy photography, I really enjoy fishing, I really enjoy watching my daughter swim.

So basically this whole fishing thing has changed for me over the many years and is morphing into a different animal.

I don't necessarily know what direction I will go but I know things are always changing.
